The School of Mathematics and Information Sciences of Guangxi University , originated in 1931 as the Department of Mathematics.
Guoping Li (李国平),a famous mathematician and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiehua Mai (麦结华), a national
outstanding teacher, used to teach here.
At present, the college consists of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Information and Com
puting Scienceand the Department of Public Mathematics. In addition, it has two research institutions: Guangxi Center for Mathematical
Research and University Mathematics Education and Teaching Research Center which are the affiliated units of Guangxi Mathematical
Society.
Basic Mathematics and Applied Mathematics were authorized to grant master's degree in 1984 and 1986, respectively. . In 2021, mathe
matics discipline was authorized to grant doctoral degree. In 2023, the college has established post-doctoral research stations.
Until April 2024, The college of Mathematics and Information Sciences has 87 faculty members, including 70 full-time teachers and 17
teaching assistants and administrators.
For the undergraduate education, there has two undergraduate majors: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Information and Co
mputingScience. In addition, there are experimental classes for innovative training such as “Mathematical Innovative Talents”, “Mathe
matical Science” and “Information Science”.
For the Graduate education, five second-level disciplines are engaged in graduate student cultivation. They are Pure Mathematics, Applied
Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics and Operational Research and Cybernetics.
